The Nitesh Tiwari directorial film will be starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. In an exciting turn of events after months of speculation, Yash has formally revealed that he will take on the iconic role of Ravan in this highly anticipated film, Ramayan. This project has been in development for a significant time, and Yash will also co-produce it, aiming to showcase the film on an international platform.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Yash recounted how he became involved with the film, Ramayan. While working on VFX for his film Toxic in Los Angeles, Yash was approached by Namit Malhotra, head of DNEG and Prime Focus. Namit had dedicated years to the Ramayan project. During their conversations, they discovered a shared vision for bringing the film to a global audience.

Regarding the casting of the film, Yash explained that Ranbir Kapoor was already attached to Ramayan before his involvement. “As for Sai Pallavi, that was a collective decision. I believe this film needs representation from both the South and the North. Nitesh ji always envisioned Sai Pallavi for the role, and I concurred that she was an excellent choice,” he noted.

Yash emphasized that he wouldn’t have accepted a different role in the movie. He stated that the character of Ravan is too compelling. “For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to portray. I admire the nuances and complexities of this role, and it offers a vast opportunity for a fresh interpretation. As an actor, I am thrilled about it, and I hope our approach will be unique,” he expressed.

This announcement marks the first official confirmation of casting in Ramayan. The film was rumoured to have a staggering budget of ₹835 crores. With Yash’s involvement, the film is set to be a monumental spectacle aimed at both Indian and international audiences.

Yash recollected that Namit had cautiously suggested the possibility of him playing Ravan. And he agreed only after ensuring the character would be portrayed with respect. He acknowledged that a film of this magnitude demands actors who are deeply committed to the project’s vision, beyond their fame. After further discussions with director Nitesh Tiwari, Yash became fully dedicated to the project.
